Der Krumpus Art Show

I’ve got some new pieces that I’ll be showing on the 15th of December in a show titled; “Der Krumps Art Show”.

image
Here’s a description for “Der Krampus Art Show:”

Krampus is a German folk legend that accompanies St. Nicholas at Christmas time. While St. Nicholas delivers gifts to the good children, Krampus tortures, beats and steals those who have been bad. This group art show is an homage to Krampus in all his wicked glory.

New artwork, handmade Christmas cards, and gifts will be on display at the opening and the show will be up through the holidays.

Come join us for a skewed take on a Christmas tradition and for handcrafted Angel City beer!

It’s been too long since I’ve had a solo show. Kinda nervous, but I feel like the work I’m producing is the most expressive art that I’ve done so far. Mark yer calenders!

Installation At Pehrspace

This installation took a lot out of me. It is dedicated to all of my friends who have gone through tough times. I know I don’t show it nearly enough, but I do care. I’m kinda like a sponge cuz I seem to absorb everyone’s state of being, good and bad (I’ve been told it’s a Pisces thing). Well, I guess that’s what this piece means to me.

Special thanks to Pauline Lay for giving me the opportunity to do this. I hope my friends come out and enjoy the night with me. Super stoked my new band, Fields Landing, is playing with Moses Campbell. Plus good buddy, Andy Anderson, will be printing some super limited silkscreened posters that will be revealed and available for sale at the show!!!! radballs!!!! Come and rock out!!!! I’m gonna get some Sangria and wine for the night too!!!

The solemn bell shakes with its boom
the sooty walls in dread vibration.
Soon must uncertainty assume
Some form, to greet long expectation.
And now a glimmer lifts the gloom;
The depths within the phial show
A glint, a living ember’s glow.
Ay, as a burning jewel, the spark
Flashes a ray to pierce the dark.
A light emerges, white and still:
This time an answer I implore.-
Ah God! Who rattles at my door?

wediscovertowhatextent…

This piece was inspired by a quote by experimental film maker Will Hindle.

Taken from the book; Expanded Cinema by Gene Youngblood (1970).

“We discover to what extent our souls partakes of the constant creation of the universe.”

It’s taken me since January til now to finish this. I used acrylics, cell vinyl, ink, & glow in the dark paint (the background glows in the dark) on found wood. I will be showing this at Pehrspace group art show; “Dewey & the Decimals.”

Special thanks to Roneil Chavez for the amazing photography and layout design. Check out his website.

Dewey & the Decimals

Dewy and the Decimals: a group art show celebrating literature and libraries

I’ve been buying my daughter a lot of books lately and her fascination with the illustrated page has prompted the idea for this show. Artists are invited to interpret literature onto canvas. Themes for this show would include Influential authors/books or simply any place or thing that induces an inspiring/ learning moment. The work will also explore how people catalogue memories.

I feel really lucky to know so many great artists. On top of awesome art and bands, there will be handful of great writers that will be reading selected work in between bands. Yowzaa, riiiight? try more like double yowzaa!

Here’s what I’ve got done so far on the painting:

Current inspiration for this piece comes from the Chicago based band; Houses . Went nutso with my friends Roneil Chavez and Ashley Wallace. We came up with this collaboration. This is part one in a series that we’ll be showing on the 22nd at the Strange.

We Don’t Want To Lose Our Souls

Been listening to a lot of New Year’s “The End Is Near.” Last night I watched the video for “The End Is Not Near” eight times in a row. Then l went outside tonight for a smoke (or three) and saw a freakin’ huge ass spider in his web settled between two branches. Dude, if that freakin’ thing came at me, I would have totally been killed. That would be a rad way to go. Can’t seem to sleep much. This is the product of many a sleepless nights:

I’ll Be showing this piece at the next group show that I’m curating titled “how the lamb destroyed the world” October 22nd at The Strange 4316 Melrose Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90029. The theme is “duality.” Should be interesting to see how the other artists deal with this theme.

Closing Night of bellows from freak island

The closing reception for “bellows” is going to be tops. There will be live music from Cunt Sparrer (female fronted Cock Sparrer tribute band) & Space Waves (female fronted shoegazer). If that wasn’t enough, the debut of the comedy improv group Gonnorrhea Mouth (featuring Brian Jack, Matt Jones, Kevin Manwarren, Gian Molina, Mike Postalakis, and myself) will be performing. On top of that we’ll be screening Gian Molina’s short he made with Zero Friends. Get there at 8pm!

the story of the hobo made of sand

i used drive down highway 1 for work every morning and every day rising out of the dunes i would see this grizzled dude with a fist full of bags full of bags along with canteen strapped to his side. he walked alongside the highway ,  where he went i don’t know, but during his travels, waves of sand would burn his face without a single flinch.  he was of the sand.
